A mother's health improves after moving in with her daughter's family
Noreen had been in and out of the hospital before, but when she had a health scare that put her in the hospital for a two-month stay, she knew this time was different. She worked hard to get her strength up enough to be released into the care of her daughter. Once home, her daughter Theresa said, “Mom, you may have challenges, but I’ll help you.” And that Theresa does. She helped her mother improve her diet and created a tailored exercise regime, including Tai Chi, resulting in Noreen losing 65 lbs. Theresa sees herself not only as her mother’s caregiver, but also as her coach. She works hard to constantly encourage her mother to get up and move around, as well as try new things. Theresa credits the assistance of the Caregiver Homes team with helping her find the right services for her mother and for providing resources on how to tackle her mother’s depression. When asked what she would tell others in a similar situation, she says, “Take it day by day. It isn’t easy, but remember to take care of yourself.” She says Caregiver Homes reminds her of this daily.
